SCARED OF MATHS? TRY VEDIC MATHEMATICS

Post by Admin on Tue Jul 20, 2010 12:45 pm

Many students consider Maths a very difficult subject- this is because the subject is taught mechanically. Some students encounter difficulty with basic arithmetical operations. Some find it difficult to manipulate symbols and balance equations. In the present system of mathematics, there is a unique fixed way of solving problems, yet this often leads to monotony and boredom.

Mathematics holds a special position among subjects of study- it possesses qualities of absolute certainty and precision which cannot be attributed to any other subject. Though mathematics application is at many levels, it is primarily a mental subject. A system of mental maths could provide students with a lasting link with the realm of maths and also engender a deeper understanding of the structure and process of maths- at the same time helping to develop other important personal qualities.

Of late, a few teachers and scholars have revived interest in Vedic Mathematics, which was developed as a system derived from Vedic principles by Swami Bharati Krishna Tirthaji in the early decades of the 20th Century.

Vedic Maths is the most natural way of working and can be learnt and mastered with very little effort and in a short time. It enriches our knowledge and understanding of maths, and shows clear links and continuity between different branches of maths. The Vedic Maths system also provides us with a set of checking procedures for independent crosschecking of whatever we do, so we can move on confidently.

The right half of the brain has the powerful faculty of intuition, which unfortunately remains undeveloped due to the present monotonous procedures of the popular maths system. The element of choice and flexibility at each stage in the Vedic Maths system keeps the mind lively and alert, and develops clarity of mind and intuition by integrating the training of the two hemispheres of the brain. This will result in holistic development of the human brain, and in multidimensional thinking.

At a very subtle level, Vedic Maths helps us in our spiritual growth and is a very natural, effortless and flawless way of rising to the natural state of knowingness.
